This is the third year of a three fiscal year grant extension funding the Center. Its mission is to improve the profitability of independent businesses, through knowledge and skill development, and stimulate economic growth in South King County. Funding for this three year grant totals $90,000.

SEATTLE PACIFIC UNIVERISTY $29,165 For Mentorship

Eighth year of a 10-year grant (totaling $260,847) for undergraduate and graduate students to have an opportunity for a meaningful and ongoing interaction with business leaders.

$64,470 for Entrepreneurship Program

The second year of a four-year grant to engage in real “live-fire” business start ups in partnership with the Battelle Institute; to enhance core SPU curriculum; to identify students with entrepreneurial proclivity; and to create a sustainable program..

SEATTLE UNIVERSITY $37,282 For Entrepreneurship Center

Third year of a three fiscal year grant for the Entrepreneurship Workshop/Speaker Series/Business plan Competition: for involvement in the Collegiate Entrepreneur Awards Program; for a faculty and Curriculum Development Program; for the Entrepreneur Advisor-Career Exploration Program; for the Entrepreneur in Residence and Breakfast Briefing; for a Graduate Assistant position; and for basic programs. Original approval for total of $122,124.

UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON

$25,000 for Business Plan Competition

T Three-year grant is for a total of $75,000. The competition is focused on the education process and creating new ventures. The Competition continues to be extremely successful, provides a substantial learning experience for all participants, and continues to have a positive involvement and effect on all the northwest schools. Funding will be used for prizes.

$18,300 for High-Tech Speaker Series

Third year of a three-year continued support for the Series, while securing permanent funding. Same commitment for University to invite other colleges and schools, and to provide tapes if requested.

NORTHWEST SCHOOL FOR HEALING - IMPAIRED CHILDREN

$29,851 for annual annuity

This grant was adjusted this year for inflation as requested by Herbert Jones’ Will. The grant is specifically exempted from Mission and Guidelines of Foundation.

$28,000 for teacher support

Final year of five-year grant to provide a teacher while School secures funds for an endowment to support the salary of a teacher into the future. Subject to reasonable progress to goal of a $600,000 endowment fund.

WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY

$30,998 for undergraduate Internship in international entrepreneurship

Second year of a two-year grant is for $46,996. University will partner with foreign firms in Asia, provide short-term foreign study and practical training.

GONZAGA UNIVERSITY

$37,500 for a part-time internship coordinator and support costs.

The business community in the Inland Empire is primarily small business. The Hogan Entrepreneurial Leadership Program is initiating an internship program for its students.

WHITWORTH COLLEGE

$45,019 for Center for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Studies

Second year is for the three-year grant. The program provides for shadowing, mentoring, internship, and speaker series (non-national speakers).

HERITAGE COLLEGE

$19,900 is for internships for students.

Three-year grant totaling $60,000 is to provide for internships with local businesses in an important economic area with a substantial impact for students, school, and community.

EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

$46,563 is for the Center of Entrepreneurial Activities—Business Resource Center

This assists initiation of the Center to enhance the networking, education, and service directly for the students and Spokane County and the Inland Empire. It was strongly encouraged they coordinate with Gonzaga and Whitworth. Approval of second and third year is subject to review of progress after first year.

NORTHWEST ENTREPRENEUR NETWORK

$20,700 is for Entrepreneur University

This will provide financial assistance to students from universities and colleges to attend the two day seminar with entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, attorneys, marketing and sales experts. It is a three-year grant totaling $62,100.

$11,900 is for Venture Success

A three-year program is to provide impartial critiques for entrepreneurs of their business plans using professional advisor expertise and experience.
